Glossary

In here, explaining the networking words used in the product.

Terminology list

IP address

This is the string allocated to each computer to recognize the computer connected to the network.
ex.) 192.168.1.20
      210.197.79.10

One point
・At the time of default setting, 192.168.1.1 is allocated to this router.
・It is not possible to allocate the same IP address within the same network.

ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

The function to share the internet connection with multiple computers. Install ICS in one computer, and connecting to the internet via other computer or the computer.

・When router is set in network, router works as ICS. However, if there is router function switching switch, the router only works when it is ON.

Account

This is the string to recognize the user. This is used samely as ID.

Access Point

It means main device when communicationg via wireless LAN. In mobile phone's case, it is base station.

Access point mode

This is the mode, which the PC connected as wireless LAN networking device functions as access point mode.

Access Policy

Access policy in Client manager determins accept/decline the connection for the MAC address.

ASCII

This is the most standard character code to show alphameric characters in PC.

Ad-hoc mode

Shows the communication structure for wireless LAN clients. In mobile phone's case, you can communicate between mobile phones with infrared communication.

Encryption type

Normally if you want to use the wireless LAN, the communication details should be encrypted so the third party can not steal the information without any authorization. There are some types in encryption method and client manager supports the below encryption type.

  1. AES method
  2. TKIP method
  3. WEP method

・Our router is set as WEP at the default setting.
・Depending on the game machine, there may be the encryption type, which does not support. Kindly note.
・We don't recommend you to set without encryption due to the security point of view.

Infrastructure mode

This is the communication structure, which all the wireless LAN clients communicate via the access point. If it's mobile phone, you call and send SMS through the base station.
⇔ Ad-hoc mode

WEP

This is the encryption method, which is used in many wireless LAN devices.
The recent encryption tends to be easy to be decoded, and it tends to be switched to more powerful AES method.

AES

This is the encryption method approved as US goverment standard encryption.
Recent devices support AES more and it tends to move from WEP method.

SSID (ESSID)

This indicates identifier to join the same wireless LAN network. Access point and wireless LAN adapter can not be communicated if SSID is matched.

・If you would like to switch this product to access point mode and connect with game device, it indicates the SSID set to this product.
・At the default setting, it is set as "GW-USMicroN".

XLink Kai

This is the software to connect the home-use game machine to the internet and play on line with other remote players.

Open system authentication

This is the method to authenticate before starting the communication for the computer, connected to the network.

Subnet mask

This is the numerical number to recognize which IP address (allocated to each computer) belongs to which network.
Example) 255.255.255.0

Hexadecimal number

This is the method to show the numerical value with the numerical characters between 0〜9 and alphabetical characters from A to F.

Station mode

This is the mode to connect to the access point to function the wireless LAN communication device as client.

Stealth

In wireless LAN standard, because SSID for wireless LAN, the third party may be connect to wireless LAN network without any auhtorization. Then, steath function enables SSID not to be viewed and control the illegal connection.

・Even after activating the SSID stealth, the SSID in use can be searched by receiving the electric wave in communicating. No matter if the stealth is valid or invalid, we recommend to activate the encryption.

WPA-PSK

In order to secure brittleness of WEP, enacted WPA method will be used to connect. Encryption key will be used, not authentication server.

WPA2-PSK

WPA2 method, which is the standard after WPA, will be used to connect to the network. Without using the authentication server, encryption key will be used.

WPS(PBC) (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

This is the standard to complete the security setting and wireless LAN device connection easily.

One point
・If the devices have WPS buttons, the wireless LAN setting can be easily completed just by pushing the WPS button for accesspoint and client.

Channel

This is the classification for radio wave. The more the wireless LAN devices to connect in the same channel becomes, the transmission speed goes down. Just by changing to the channel, which is not used for many devices, you can use the stable wireless LAN network.

・Our router is set for 1 channel at the default setting.
・The channel in use can be checked from client manager.

TKIP

This is the encryption protocol, used for WPA, which is wireless LAN data encryption method.
Whenever the some data is forwarded, the encryption key gets changed and the strength of encryption goes up.

Default gateway

It means the gateway for the different networks.

One point
・In the network environment, where router is set, router works as default gateway.

Driver

This is the program to control the devices connected to PC.

Authentication Type

This determins the security format to connect to the access point.

  1. Open system
  2. WEP (Shared)
  3. WPA-PSK
  4. WPA2-PSK

・Client manager is set for WEP (shared).
・Depending on the game machine, there may be the authentication type that does not support.

Pass Phrase Character String

This means the long password. In order to connect to wireless LAN access point, it may somtimes be required to input the pass phrase.

802.1x

This is the standard to determine the user authentication in LAN. Not only wireless LAN, it defines including the wireless LAN authentication.

BW 20MHz/40MHz

By changing the band width to 40MHz to 20MHz, you can send/receive more data and improve the transmission speed.

Bridge connection

It indicates the connection form, which connects multiple networks.

MAC address

This is the fixed number, which all the devices connect to network have. MAC address can be shown in hexadecimal number in 12 characters. Also it is allocated to one device, so it does not overlap.

MAC address filter

BY registering the MAC address of the device connect to wireless LAN, to access point, you can choose where to decline or accept the communication of registered device. It helps to avoid the illegal access from the third party.
 
In client manager, the below access policy can be used for the all the devices registered in MAC address list.

  • Invalid: Connection from all the devices is available
  • Decline: Connection from the registered MAC address of the device can not be done.
  • Accept: Connection from the registered MAC address of the device can be done.

※ However, the different access policy depending on the MAC address can not be set.

One point
・Even if MAC address filter is activated for the air wave of wireless LAN, there still be possibility that the air wave is intercepted. We recommend to activate the encryption setting no matter if the address filter is used or not.
